Where do you actually keep your MSDS documents during inspections?

  • We had a surprise visit from the municipality last week at our chemical storage unit in Dubai Industrial City and the inspector asked to see our material safety data sheets. Our guy scrambled around for ten minutes digging through a filing cabinet and pulling loose papers from a folder, it was honestly embarrassing. The inspector was patient but you could tell he was not impressed. He mentioned that sheets should be kept somewhere accessible right near the storage area, not buried in an office drawer. So now I am trying to sort this out properly before the next visit. Someone told me there are wall mounted holders specifically for this purpose, like a dedicated box you fix near the chemicals so anyone can grab the sheet quickly. I came across an MSDS Box 320x260x55mm size which sounds about right for holding a few laminated sheets, but I am not sure if that is big enough or if I should go larger. Also does the box need to be weatherproof if it is going in a semi open area? Would love to hear how other people here handle this because I do not want a repeat of last week.
